Biography

FROM A FAMILY of professional musicians, Rachel Smith read Music at Cambridge University, where she was an Intercollegiate Instrumental Award-holder (cello) and a Choral Exhibitioner at Girton College.

On leaving Cambridge Rachel was offered a job as a trainee producer and editor at Meridian Records, where after six months she became the sole producer and editor in the company. Two years and many recordings later she left to take up a post at Koch International UK, and after working as Promotions Assistant for a year was promoted to Classical Manager, responsible for all aspects of marketing and promotion of twelve distributed labels.

By working in sales, marketing and promotions, Rachel gained a more rounded experience of the industry as a whole, but after two years she realised that it was time to return to her first love – producing and editing – where she could get back in close contact with the music. It was at this time that she was offered the post of Producer and Editor at Chandos Records, where she remained for eight years, producing and editing hundreds of discs and forging strong relationships with the musicians she recorded. She formed her own production company, Ophelia Productions, in January 2006.
